A very recent acquisition and a very cool one too, because I did not have a single coin from São Tomé and Príncipe. :) Beautiful set of coins, isn't it? 8)

The set has five coins (100, 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 Dobras), all dated 1997. There are 18,785 Sao Tomean Dobras to One US Dollar at current exchange rate. :o I believe that this is the last set of circulating coins from São Tomé and Príncipe?

Nice designs indeed - and you could, at least in theory, add a few more denominations. After all, the coins from São Tomé and Príncipe, even the earliest Dobra issues, form a kind of design "family". In the mid-1970s, after the independence, they issued six pieces - from the half dobra (50c) to 20 dobras. Then, in 1990, a 50 dobras coin was added, and in 1997 the ones you now have were introduced.

The older ones are basically obsolete today, but there has not been any radical design change in those almost 40 years. These days the dobra has a fixed euro exchange rate by the way (24,500 dobras = €1).
