« on: July 03, 2013, 01:41:02 PM »
Could you please let me know what on earth this is.  Or even where to look....
It looks like a tiger's head on the front.
23.5mm, 18.4g, 5mm thick
Many thanks for your help ;D

Turn a little bit clockwise and you have lion standing right in front of sun with face. Shouts Persia al over.
Could be safavid falus or later. There are many types with this basic design. Whats on the other side ?

Not really my field. But i would say most likely beginning 19th century. Also because of the quite yellow copper color.
Look for example at KM #A35 and A41, these are quite similar in style.

Couldn't find it there.  But I see where you are coming from.
Yes, Persia makes perfect sense.  Many thanks. 8)

Persia is confirmed; it's a falus of Kashan mint with a nice sunface counterstamp.

Dear Redwine, on the "derrière", we can easily ( ;D...) read "zarb falus Kashan"

a similar coin (without countermark) dated 37 for 1137 AH is illustrated on Valentine under n°37

Magic, Saro. Thanks.

Peter
An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
