Japanese Mon with unknown mark on reverse
« on: January 27, 2013, 04:43:44 PM »
Can someone please help me with this one ...
I think it's a Japanese Mon, with fine lettering, but I can't find the mark on the reverse.
It looks like they are (3) horizontal lines very close together ....
Thanks !

Paul.

Closest fit I get is Osaka (Craig 1.8). The two horizontal strokes are visible to the right and the silhouet almost fits, except for the stroke on the lower right I would have expected to see sticking out.

The only other alternative I can think of is Sado. KM gives three variants and the middle one fits, but the picture of this coin (Craig 1.3) shows the right character, not the central character...

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Hello,

"Gen" I would exclude. For coins from Osaka does not fit the front.
Possibly the sign would be "Sa" for the Sado Mint. Then, however, the front badly fits.

For the rest, the sign "Ashi" remains for the Ashio Mint. Front with Tiger-Tail "Kan" and "Ei" in the nisui style.
Nisui-Style - "Ei": the upper horizontal line juts out on the right easily.
Issue period about in 1741-1745.

The diameter would have been helpful. I think this he 23,5-24,5mm amounts.?

ps: another 37 hours up to WMF Berlin  :D 3 days in coins digging and hopefully what the new find... ;D

Thanks guys !

I have been checking images I could find on the net, and Ashio was my closest match ...

Diameter is 22.5 mm.

I have looked sometimes in my collection and I believe the piece has found.
The diameters information on top from the catalogue is wrong, my piece has 22.6 mm.
I believe almost this the same one is.
