Anothedr question from my website, that I don't have an answer to.
Anyone care to estimate the price this coin might sell for?

Let's try to identify this piece. It seems to commemorate something that happened in 1480. Judging from the clothes of the walking figure, 1780 or perhaps 1830 would hen be possible dates for the medal. I couldn't find anything fitting Austrian or German history in 1480, but did find the stand on the Ugra. The fur cap (or is it an imperial crown?) could be Russian. However, the letters on the coin don't look Russian to me.

I short, I can't even identify it. Can you read anything from the edge text? It might start with REDUX and end with ...BVS.

Cannot tell anything about a possible value, but that should be a Tyrol Guldiner:

After all, I have the die ... sort of. ;D The Austrian €25 coin from 2003 (700 Years City of Hall/Tyrol) shows that die on one side:

Great! Thanks, Christian.

So the text reads ARCHIDUX AVSTRIAE SIGISMVNDVS or Sigmund archduke of Austria.

Now I can answer the question. This type was last sold in auction #9 of St. James auctions in London on 8th June 2008. It was graded as a good VF (British understatement) and realized £ 3 100 (at the time, $ 6 071). The previous piece was auctioned by Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles in Auction 46 on May 26th, 2008. It was graded AU-50 (American overstatement, the two coins look about the same grade to me) Price realized: $ 15 500.

Before they break out the champagne, there are quite a few modern imitations.
