Here is another object I don't know much about....

Zinc, about the same size at a 20 euro cent.

Generic national dog tax token. The head is taken from the Belgian arms, not taken off a dog.

I had thought that this token was given as proof of payment of the dog tax, rather than it being used for payment?

Correct. The system was more or less: dogs wear dog tag (proof of payment). Those that don't either get shipped to city dog kennel and - if no one wants them - to dog heaven or dog's boss gets fine.

I have never understood why there's no cat tax. Cats cause more damage.
