Mohur

Tough one, but for me it has to be the 1862 Mohur (pendant!)

The Mohur was the coin that sparked my interest in British India coins.  I loved the design and in particular the reverse side!

I did not take this picture, but it really doesn't do it any justice!!

This is one of my best coin in my collection  :  VICTORIA QUEEN ( continuous legend ) 1840 : English Head Short neck - Obv.
19 Berries ( 10 L + 9 R ) with " bud leaves ",
Cresent on ribbon of left bow on Rev. - Calcutta mint
P # 42

The cresent privy mark denoting Calcutta mint is very prominent on the ribbon bow on the reverse and is rare to get in this condition.

Excellent piece. Where were you waiting side the gate of the mint during 1840? :P Why didn't you call me for my copy?

There are a bunch of coins I really like, but I nominate this one as my flagship coin.  This coin marks the replacement of the Mughal style (reverse), i.e., Mughal authority, with the newer European masters (obverse).  It is gold and everyone likes gold.  Bought in slab graded NGC AU58, but professional grading means jack squat to me.
Defending this hobby against a disapproving family since 1998.

I logged in after some time and find a lot of new interesting threads. The one which got me really thinking was this one. I have been thinking for some time and this is really proving to be a difficult task! Do I go with the George VI 1946-7 nickle coins which I found in circulation and started my interest in British India (the design is still very dear to me), the very regal portrait of George V on the high grade red 1/4 anna coins which I got (and subsequently cleaned  :o), go in for some serendipitous finds of rare coins, very nicely toned high grade coins which sends your pulse racing, rarities in high grade which can be on catalog covers if I ever sell the collection, unique error pieces or ones which have sentimental value??? A very simple question but which involves some introspection on why we really collect. We should change the subject to "favorite" instead of "greatest". The greatest coin may just be the most expensive one and different than what many people posted here.

BTW many nice choices here. There is just one coin here I think has a problem and will reply to that particular post.

My antivirus does give me a message and blocks the 1862 mohur image from "imagetoo.com" saying the page contains malware. Would the member who posted this please attach the picture to the post and remove the link from there?
Thanks.

This might just be the pictures, but the coin does not look like a genuine gilt coin or a proof to me. I have seen many examples of (and have one with me too) of the regular 1808 10 Cash plated with brass and they are very different than the genuine examples gilt at the mint. Better pictures would help.

Sure...I'll take better pictures tonight.  I rather be safe than sorry.  I bought this a long time ago and haven't really given it much thought until this thread.  I hope it is the real McCoy..
