Olympic medalists to be on coins - Putin

Aug 3, 2012 03:50 Moscow Time

The names of Russians who are champions and medal winners at the London Olympic Games will appear on special coins which will be minted and released by the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.

Russian president Vladimir Putin told this to the press before leaving the British capital.

According to the president the names of the winners of gold medals will be on gold coins, and silver and bronze medal winners on silver and bronze coins respectively.

All of the coins will have a face value of 1 ruble.

President Putin was asked what their real cost would be, to which he answered: their worth would be decided upon by the market.

They should at-least issue bronze coins for circulation. They can also try honoring gold medal winners in Nordic Gold and silver medal winners in steel for circulation, along with surcharged gold and silver pieces. :D
