Here's an old one ( about 430 BC ) from Mende a Greek city in the Macedonian coast of Northern Greece.
It shows Dionysius on top of a donkey.

Pretty cool...

Several older Dutch coins show a horse with a knight mounted on it. I guess that's why they call them gold and silver riders...

(lessee if someone spots the oddity)

If some Martian scientist studies these coins in 2 milleniums, he will no doubt conclude from the evidence that horsies walked on their hind legs, just like humans...

So the oddity that you mentioned in your previous post is that the horseman can still sit on the animal's back, in shining and heavy armor, while the horse is on the two rear legs? :) Well, here is one with less metal above the horse:

Ah, right - "in usum societ. orient." ... Well, yes, I agree that you do not have to possess a coin in order to look at it and admire the design. In fact, an enlarged photo on a computer screen may even be healthier (think eyes and spinal column) than having to bend forward either at a table or in front of a museum showcase ...

Here is another great deal. Four horses for only 10, 20 or 50 ct depending on how much one wants to spend. Another case though where a magnifying glass or enlarged picture comes in handy. ;D

And for those of you who are into horses in military contexts, here are two new (oval!) "coins" from Poland.

Wait, there is more. Poland has been issuing a series of collector coins dedicated to the "History of the Polish Cavalry". The series started a few years ago; this year's pieces feature the Chevau-Légers of the Imperial Guard of Napoleon I
