UK 5 pounds 2017.jpg

UK, 5 pounds, 2017.  Gold.  A lifetime of service.

This collector coin was issued in 2017, upon Prince Philip's retirement from royal duties.

Image copyright of the Royal Mint.

The portrait was by Humphrey Paget.

It was intended for the commemorative 25 pence coin of 1972, marking the silver wedding anniversary of the Queen and Prince Philip in 1972.

However, it was not chosen for the issued commemorative coin.

Instead, it was reprised on this special coin of 2017.
