Rs 10 lakh worth coins spill on road

Udhagamandalam, Mar 8 (PTI): It \'rained\' coins on the Ooty-Kalhatti road today when a van overturned and coins worth Rs 10 lakh for distribution to various places, spilled out. Police said the van was carrying coins in the denomination of Rs 10, Rs five, Rs two and Re one from Chennai, to be distributed to State Bank of India branches here and in Coonoor and Kothagiri and nearby places. The vehicle, with four drivers was returning to deliver Rs 10 lakh worth coins to Gudalur area when the incident occured this evening. The coins, approximately weighing half a tonne kept in saxks spilled on the road. n information, a good number of police were posted there. One driver, who was injured and has been hospitalised while the others with minor injuries were admitted to the Government Hospital here, police said.
