Has anyone tried acetone, then a quick dip in distilled water? I know that you can do that to remove the green film caused by being stored in the P.V.C. coin flips.

Acetone would only effect things that are oil based, such as the problem with PVC storage flips.

Problems like BD are based on water soluble compounds like NaCl, so acetone won't work on it. Water helps, as you need to dissolve any chloride bearing deposits, the addition of sodium carbonate & sodium bi-carbonate are there to neutralize any acids formed, and it does dissolve some of the oxides, but very little.
