Algeria 100 Dinars (2002), KM# 137: 40 Years of Independence
« on: January 15, 2012, 07:08:27 AM »
Here's my recent acquisition: Algeria 100 Dinars (2002), KM# 137: 40 Years of Independence.

I don't see this coin offered so often so I'm rather pleased to have it in my collection! :)

Comments welcome!

The way the text and the graphic elements are combined on the obverse (well, on the side depicted on the left) looks very interesting to me. The only aspect that I find a little confusing is the big "40". Yes, you just explained what it means. :) And yes, from earlier posts here I know that the palm tree and the horses mean "100". But if I did not know that, I would probably assume that this is a 40 dinar coin, hehe.

When I first saw that coin, even I thought that it's a 40 Dinars coin. ;D If Kenya can have a 40 Shillings (commemorating the same event!) coin, why can't Algeria? ;)

BTW, the text on the obverse (or the denomination side) is People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, if I'm not wrong?

The legend on the obverse reads "Bank al Jazair" in the upper part, and "Dinar" below.
Greetings,
Gerhard

Thank you very much! :) (I guess you are referring the scan on right side as 'obverse', unlike me and Christian?)

The way the text and the graphic elements are combined looks very interesting to me.
The graphic elements on the reverse are the faces of three young people with flowing hair.
