Sudanese coins of 1391/1971
« on: November 02, 2011, 06:44:03 PM »
According to Schön and KM these coins were made to remember the 2nd anniversary of the revolution.

Our member Africancoins told me to have a closer look at them. The inscription above the bird (no eagle!) shows a clear 25.
What is the sense of this 25. Is it another - unknown to me - anniversary?

Attached is the scan of 10 and 5 Milliemes:

If you read on, it says "25 mayu". So, now you can guess what it means.

Thanks Harald! So - with a little help of you and another collector - it should be the 25th of May 1969, the beginning of the Democratic Republic Sudan under Gaafar Nimeiri. This date matches also the second anniversary of the revolution mentioned in the catalogues.
