Help, please, with Morocco 1/20 Rial coins
« on: October 22, 2011, 02:02:16 AM »
Well, it's happened again. I was given a nice sized group of U.S. and foreign coins to identify and evaluate and I'm doing pretty well...but I am stuck on 2 Morocco 1/20th Rial pieces. Are they Morocco Y-18.1 or Y-18.2. May I ask how to tell the difference? I see that the Y-18.2 has PA on it but I have no idea to to recognize it or where it is...if it is there at all.

I added photos of the 3, slightly larger 1/10th Rial Y-19 pieces for interest. In my opinion, all 5 coins grade highly, perhaps XF (Extra Fine in U.S.) but would appreciate opinions. Pictures are enlarged.

Thanks so much. You guys are terrific.

All of the pieces you illustrate were struck in England (presumably Birmingham).  The words 'bi-Ingland' ([struck] in England) are at the bottom of the side showing the date.  If you look at the catalogue illustrations of the "Pa" (Paris) coins you'll see a different mint name in that position.

Have a look at the bottom Arabic word on the "10" side of the coin we discussed here:

and you'll see it's the same as on these.
