UK 1933 penny.jpg

This one is for andyg.

I have eventually got round to it.

Circumstances outside my control prevented me from completing it earlier.

I am in the National Archives.

Figleaf

KM has a mintage of 7 and a "value" of $70 000. In view of this document, both figures are wrong, unless someone found the unknown church, demolished it and kept the coin. Great fun research.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Curious....
In the English coin books they report 8 known, but I don't know if anyone has ever attempted to investigate further.

Thanks <k>.

Well, it seems as if I've created new questions and solved none.  :(

Not necessarily :)

No one has so far managed to find a source for the oft quoted "8 known"
Here you have a source, from the mint, containing details of 6.

ps. It's sideways again, I could've sworn it was the right way earlier....

I note the letter's figures are for 1933 pennies "issued," not necessarily the quantity produced.

In the National Archives? What fun you must be having!

Yes, you can say that the Royal Mint is the horse's mouth, for sure.  8)

Yes, you have a point. Or maybe it was - depends on what the curator meant by his phrasing.

In any case, there were no other documents containing any figures on the matter.

True!  8)  I'm home again now, though.

There were two documents from the 1930s regarding Turkey that I wanted, but they were out on loan to government departments.  >:(

I saw a rather art deco style of design on a Turkish coin of the 1930s.

I immediately thought it was an undocumented Percy Metcalfe design.

I wanted to test my thesis, but now I'll probably have a long wait.

1 of the churches where a coin was laid was knocked down a few years ago. A coin collector became aware of the significance and recovered the coin between what was left of the church.
