Crowns on coins

Here is a crown (as worn by a monarch) appearing on a crown (five shillings).

These Australians are such jokers, eh?

Were they mocking the British monarchy?

We should have sent them all to the tower, long since.



However, the British had played the same joke in 1928.

They reissued the same design for some years afterwards.

The cross on it looks bent.

I hope those angels were careful when they were carrying it.

The  thread already shows that most crowns on coins are "cartoon" crowns, just the fantasy of the designer. This is the British crown (there are more, but I understand this is the current favourite). AFAIK it figures only on a coronation medal, but I haven't looked at all UK commemoratives.

St. Stephen's crown may be one the oldest on a coin. I have seen older Greek, Macedonian and Korean crowns, but I don't think they are on coins.

I notice that on some later issues, the "MF" mark has been removed and the crossed hammers moved to a central position.
